Hi!
My name is Kelly.
I’ve been supporting people with communication difficulties following a stroke for over 11 years.
In that time, I have seen the devastation caused to families because of a stroke, particularly those with communication difficulties. I’ve seen the isolation, loss of confidence and self-esteem all leading to an increased risk of depression and poor motivation. I’ve also seen the effect the right support can give to whole families, changing their outlook to positivity, progression and personal independence.
What is clear is that the long-term support needed to maintain motivation and progress is not currently available due to insufficient funding and a lack of appropriate resources. That’s where I come in.
Communication with Kelly is a non-clinical service offering ongoing practical support to stroke and brain injury survivors living with communication difficulties. Sessions are practical, engaging, and tailored to the individual using everyday conversation and speech therapy techniques to encourage continued progress, motivation and confidence building. Family members are included and supported to communicate in ways that work best for everyone.
What does Communication with Kelly offer?
- Conversational support at home (including support with speech therapy programmes issued by your speech therapist).
- Support in group sessions.
- Advice for families and carers to support better conversations.
What is Non-Clinical Support?
I provide specialist support based on many years of NHS training and experience. My role is to offer practical guidance, encouragement, and tailored support to help people overcome challenges, build confidence, and make progress in ways that work for them. I do not provide diagnosis or speech therapy clinical treatment.
Who is this service for?
- People who have had a stroke or brain injury and are experiencing communication difficulties and live in Derbyshire and neighbouring counties (depending on distance).
- People who are currently having speech therapy and would like extra support and practice.
- People who have have been discharged from speech therapy but would like ongoing support to keep building confidence and communication skills
- People who will benefit from meeting others with similar difficulties in a supportive session.
- Family members, carers and others who support communication day to day.
If you’d like to know more about how I can help, I’d love to hear from you!
